FRIGATE — Eco-Resort

Frigate is a masterplan for a low-density eco-resort on the coast of Barbuda, conceived around the island’s landscape, climate and ecology. Set between lagoon and Caribbean Sea, the project brings together a series of private villas and shared spaces while preserving the openness and natural character of the site.

The project takes its name from the frigate bird, the national bird of Antigua and Barbuda, whose distinctive morphology and effortless flight informed the sweeping profiles of the architecture: elongated structures that appear to hover above the sand and dunes.

The villas reinterpret Caribbean vernacular architecture through a contemporary language. Raised on pilotis, with deep overhangs and a continuous external skin acting as a brise-soleil, they respond naturally to the tropical climate while maintaining shade, ventilation and long views towards the water.

Dispersed within the landscape rather than imposed upon it, Frigate proposes a quieter form of tropical luxury, combining a sense of isolation and immersion in nature with the comfort and service of an intimate resort.
